Hey, partner...I've just written our first country song. It's called "Hoedown". It's about a lady of the evening getting on in years. She stumbles and trips frequently, and when she does, everyone yells..."HOEDOWN"! Should be a big hit at retirement communities, etc.

I still "pick" pretty good. The "Grinnin" is gonna have to be up to you!

We're gonna knock en dead!

Hey, Tony...getting LOT'S of positive vibes about our new folk duo...lot's of female fans. Unfortunately, they're all under 8 and over 80.
If they throw their underwear at us, it's Huggies on one end (no pun intended) and Depends on the other.

Think I've got a name...What about "The Feeble Winds"?

Man, I'm outta breath already...draggin that "doghouse" bass around is a killer!

TONY...HAD to come over here, too! That E=Fb
shirt would be the PERFECT uniform for "The Feeble Winds"! I'll buy!

Give me the source in Boston and "the check is in the mail"! I'll need your size and color preference.

P.S. "Doghouse" is where we'll be if we keep this up! WATCH OUT PETE SEEGER!

I already know them: C, F and G.
Don't tell me there are more!
Best of luck on your new duo.

Don, how are you? Because of your ability (I listened to a few of your tunes), I'm re-thinking my long-standing aversion to "anything country" and, at a restaurant frequented by older couples, I'm actally doing selected tunes like "Things aren't funny anymore", Walk through this world with me", "I want to go with you" and a few others. Of course, the pan flute solos need a litle work, but....

You know, of course, that the little games Chas and Tony and I are playing about "The Feeble Winds" and the country group are all in fun, with no malice whatsoever intended.

You do a GREAT job at what you do, and I really enjoy it.

All the Best...

Russ, Country "ain't" the same any more.
Check out these songs that seem to go over in any venue:
Always On My Mind-Willie Nelson (Elvis did it too).
Two More Bottles of Wine - Emmy Lou Harris and also Delbert McClinton
Bartender's Blues - George Jones also James Taylor, who wrote it.
Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye-various artists
The Dance - Garth Brooks

Also, if you get a chance, listen to Willie Nelson's "Stardust" album. He does all the standards with a simplified sound. It's great.
Good luck on your new career. Next thing you know your wife will leave with the kids, your dog will die and you'll start drinking to forget about it all!

Russ ... While I am not a BIG country fan (although I AM BIG!!!), there are a number of tunes I like and perform ...
One is Garth Brooks' "If Tomorrow Never Comes" ... great tune and it gets good reaction ... another is Garth's "The Dance" ...

What's interesting, is that while I was pretty much raised on Italian music, my mother was actually a fan of Country/Western which resulted in my being a musician ...
Mom and Dad used to go 'clubbing' on Saturday nights with their friends ... One night they happened upon this CW group ... Mom sang really well, and didn't need much coaxing, so her friends asked the leader if she could sing a song with them ...
Well, she asks if they could do an Italian song (all the 'cowboys' in this group WERE Italian ), and the accordionists' eyes lit up ... long story short, Mom and Dad became good friends with the band and eventually I started taking accordion lessons from that same accordion player ... The rest, as they say ...

Don, I'm old enough to remember the original "Then you can tell me goodby". As for the rest of the list, I'm familiar with the tunes you mentioned, but I don't believe I will EVER be able to handle anything like those. The list I consider has less to do with the age of the tunes, but, in this case, with what works in a quiet dining room, and with what I personally can tolerate. No "Garth" or anything of that ilk. Especially, NO GEORGE JONES! And the Willie Nelson album of standards was a disappointment to me...big time. Admire the effort, but...

Oh well...I guess it's "baby steps" first.

Russ, been away for awhile taking care of this real estate business in GA. I'm still excited about our new duo but I'm a little upset about your spliting part of your time in a duo with that loser "folk" dude, Tony . Also, I love HOEDOWNS; I assume we all bring our own Ho.

Gotta go now and practice those three chords (C,G,F). Did you have to make our first collaboration so darn complex? Later.

Chas, if we have to bring our own Ho, I'd like to make that plural (or multiples...ha...ha)

Sorry you're upset about the other group. Let's all join forces and create a group that plays country, folk and bluegrass. And, let's add our "lady-friends" to the act. We could call it
CFGA...Country, Folk, Grass and A**!

What about it, guys...you in?

Man, I'm on a roll!

Horndog,
Off the subject a little, but did I ever ask you if you were related to Rodney Lay. He was a well-known entertainer around the Tulsa area years ago. He later played bass with Roy Clark.
I think his son is a DJ on a station in Tulsa now.
Just curious,

Hey, Don...not related, but I met Rodney at the Holiday Inn West in Lexington in the early 70's, when I played there during graduate school. Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton stayed there when they were playing in the area. Buck Trent, a banjo player and Rodney were traveling with them. Buck was going to leave the group and going to work on a new TV show...one with girls with low-cut tops and old men in a cornfield. I told Buck that I thought it was the dumbest idea I'd ever heard. Later, I saw Rodney and his brother, I think, on, Hee Haw, playing matching black Carvin double-neck guitars (I have the same one in a natural finish). I believe he may have been the musical director for awhile, brought in by Buck, Buck Owens and Roy Clark. Buck was on the show for the duration, and the brother of a well-known accordian player-Tony Lovello (played with the Three Sons and was the general manager of the Campbell House when I played there in the early 80's), Sam, was the producer. Funniest thing I ever saw on Hee Haw, was a guest appearance by Tony on accordion....man was he out of place! Buck talked about me working on the show, but I was close to getting my masters, had taken a full-time job at Square D Company, and just couldn't get into it!

Ah, the choices you make...

My old band back in Oklahoma was closely related to "Rodney and the Blazers". We traded guitar players now and then, and sometimes worked the same shows. This was in the early to mid 60's.
Back when I was just a tiny little Buckaroo.
